Dear Viadrina MBA Alumni Similar to other people in the world also for the MBA program Management for Central and Eastern Europe started under the light of the global economic crisis. Yet, we optimistically continue in our daily work and concentrate on updating the MBA Program and on its gradual improvement rather than on the dark outlooks of some economists. We believe that education plays an important role in the future global market and that only highly educated top managers in politics, business and finance can lead the markets to a better future. We know of course that the impact of the economic troubles on our business and private lives remains difficult – for some time. We believe that our contribution to the improvement of the global business community is to continuously prepare responsible MBA graduates - managers who will become actual leaders not only for today but mainly for tomorrow. And to be able to improve the future we must understand the present. Therefore, our yearly Alumni Meeting will try to answer questions about the consequences of this global economic crisis. We would like to give you the opportunity to learn more through discussions with other alumni and with experts from politics and business. We invited the President of the European University Viadrina Gunter Pleuger and the General Manager of NIVEA Polska Hans-Jürgen Stüting to a Panel Discussion about the impact the crisis will have on our jobs. The crisis has also made no turn-around our program which is why we decided to hold this year’s Alumni Meeting in Slubice, Poland, to keep costs at a reasonable level. And we want to beat the crisis also by having lot of fun together! As in recent years, we will prepare for you a program that will allow you to see positive sides of alumni lives as well!
Advisory Board Meeting
In February the MBA Advisory Board met to discuss annual “hot topics” of the MBA program. The Advisory Board consists of the Professors Keiber, Söllner, Wittmann, Kötzle and Dorow, Dr. Frank Berthold as a representative of the MBA Alumni and Heinz-Jürgen Stüting as a business representative. The key topics of this year meeting were new class 2009/2010 and the future of the MBA program in current economic environment.
The Class of 2009/10 has started
On March 9th, the Class of 2009/10 has started. We are very proud that despite the economic turbulences, we were able to enrol such a diverse class of 12 talented students from all over Europe. This year, students from Serbia, Sweden, Poland, Germany, Russia, Romania, and Belarus started to study toward an MBA Diploma. As expected and similar to other MBA programs in Germany and the whole world also we have less students than in previous years. Despite of economic pressure we decided not to compromise the requirements in respect of required background and knowledge practice experients of our future student. | MBA Confrence 2009 in Berlin As a representative of our Program, our Program Coordinator Christian Kanig attended the MBA Conference 2009 in Berlin. At these yearly MBA Conferences, Program Directors and Coordinators meet to discuss recent trends and developments in Managerial Education. As one might expect, the ongoing economic crisis remained the key focus throughout the conference. A number of high-profile human resource managers from multinational corporations gave talks about what they expect from future MBA graduates when making recruitment decisions. Farewell At the end of March, Monika Diekert will leave for private reasons her position of the MBA program director. She will stay connected with the university and co-operate with it in the future. Before the European University Viadrina appoints a new director, Prof. Dorow and Prof. Wittmann will lead the program as intermediate directors.
