MBA Alumni Meeting 2009 Roundtable: "The Economic Crisis and its Discontents" Saturday, May 16th We would like to invite all interested to take a part in this open event, which will be held on Saturday (May, 16th) in Collegium Polonicum, Room No. 12. 15:00-16:30 ROUNDTABLE „The Economic Crisis and its Discontents“ The financial crisis has influenced us in our daily jobs. Particularly, the emerging markets of Eastern Europe have been severely hit. East European economies have long been considered the driving engine for growth in Europe. But these days, warnings abound pointing to the heightened vulnerability of Eastern European economies. What has the future in store for us? Are European states going to seal themselves off against outside influences? Is Eastern Europe Europe’s subprime debtor? What is the future of the Euro as a currency? Our discussants are going to be: Dr. Gunter Pleuger, President of the European University Viadrina Dr. Gunter Pleuger was previously State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office and Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of Politics, Arms Control, and European Affairs. Between 2002-2006, he was the permanent German Representative at the United Nations. Prof. Dr. Karl Ludwig Keiber, Chair of International Finance at European University Viadrina Prof. Dr. Karl Ludwig Keiber taught Finance at WHU and Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. He is the author of numerous publications on portfolio theory, trading and banking. Hans-Jürgen Zahorka, former Member of European Parliament Hans-Jürgen Zahorka is director of LIBERTAS - European Institute, a think-tank on European economy and policies in Germany. He has been working since 1997 extensively as Government Advisor for the EU among others in Central and Eastern Europe, the CIS and the Balkan states and he is member of TEAM EUROPE, a network of EU experts on behalf of the Commission (DG Information & Communication). Heinz-Jürgen Stüting, General Manager of NIVEA Polska Heinz-Jürgen Stüting has successfully managed the market entry and set up of Nivea on the Polish cosmetic market. He has been living in Poznan, Poland, for many years. He became responsible for the business development in East Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. Since 1994 Heinz-Jürgen Stüting is involved in the development of the Beiersdorf business in Poland, and since 1999 he is CEO of NIVEA Polska Sp. z o.o. in Poznań. In 1996/1997 Heinz-Jürgen Stüting was involved in the acquisition of the new Polish Beiersdorf subsidiary and afterwards directed the change management process at Beiersdorf-Lechia S.A., which was renamed to NIVEA Polska Sp. z o.o. in 2005. Under his leadership NIVEA developed to the leading cosmetic brand in Poland. Prof. Dr. Herbert Grüner Prof. Dr. Herbert Grüner is teaching at the Berlin Weissensee Art School. He is a specializing in Entrepreneurship and Creative Industries. He taught at Erlangen, Nürnberg and Stutgart University and in St. Gallen/Switzerland, and spent many years as a Guest Lecturer at international universities.
